1st and 2nd years, head down to the MSTC @ 10am to grab some snacks, relax between lectures and chat to other years!
The first fixture for our women’s football team. Time tbc
Take a break from the stresses of 1st Week and join us for a relaxed session with our arts rep! Meet at the RadCam at 5pm (with art supplies if possible) to do some sketching of Oxford.
Life drawing can seem a little daunting and unapproachable if you've never done it before, so we're trying to break down the barriers and insecurities surrounding the human body that we've created for ourselves, and celebrate everything it does for us in a safe and positive space. Everyone is welcome, especially beginners and people who don't see themselves as 'artists'.
The class will also have an opportunity to have a go at modelling for anyone who wants to (you can wear however many clothes you want!)
Midweek, midday; it’s always been a sleepy time for the medical school, but no more! This weekly event organised by the Sports Reps is a chance to unwind after morning lectures/ wake yourself up for afternoon work with a social run in University parks.
We aim to accommodate runners of all abilities, from those going for a blue, to those running for the very first time. With this in mind, there are multiple routes available and there will always be someone to run with the last person, so don’t worry about being left behind- you won’t be!
Workshop run by Becky and Harri from the Anti Diet Riot Club (http://antidietriotclub.co.uk), who model themselves and provide all materials. Anyone who wants to give modelling a go at the end is very welcome to (unclothed or not, it's up to you!)
The class will be an hour and a half and use a variety of techniques including drawing, painting and collage. You'll also be encouraged to think about your attitude towards your own body before and after you draw, through self reflection and sharing.
If you want to sign up or have any more questions, please drop me a message. We're limiting numbers to around 20 to create a safe and relaxed environment, so please let me know if your availability on the day changes!
It'll be free for members of MedSoc and if there's space then non-members will be able to pay a fiver to come along.

Professor Hugh Montgomery is a consultant intensivist with many strings to his bow. As well as being a professor at UCL and practising as an intensivist at Whittington Hospital, he is extensively involved in research into human health and performance, which has led to him discovering the first "fitness gene" - an ACE allele variant - and also conducting research up Mount Everest! Professor Montgomery will be speaking to our members primarily about his work on the impacts of climate change on human health - we hope that you can join us for this exciting talk by a world-class physician and researcher!

Dr. Frances Bu'lock is a consultant paediatric cardiologist at the East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre, having trained at both Oxford and Cambridge. In addition to her extensive research into congenital cardiology, she was part of the team that helped the first baby born with ectopia cordis to survive this condition, in which the heart is outside of the body, and has battled to keep Glenfield Hospital as a centre of excellence in the NHS. We are delighted to invite our members to hear from Dr. Bu'lock about her career path in cardiology and also her experiences of working in the NHS - we hope that you can join us for what promises to be a fascinating evening!
Thinking of pursuing surgery? Want the chance to study medicine in other countries? Fancy brushing up on your Russian? Then come along to our information evening to find out more about this summer's surgery work experience school taking place at Sechenov University, Moscow, as part of Oxford MedSoc's partnership with UK-Russia Young Medics Association, and how you can apply!
Following the hugely successful UK-Russia Summer School held last June, we are running a 2-week programme for 18 undergraduate UK medics this summer in urology, colorectal, cardiothoracic, and trauma/head & neck surgery. Come down to Oriel College at 5:30pm on HT2 Wednesday (23rd Jan) to meet our Sechenov colleagues who will be running the summer school, as well as MedSoc members who have previously taken part in exchanges, to learn more about the application process, as well as fees and available funding.
If you’re on the fence, check out the video from last year’s summer school, with commentary from our ex-Arts Rep Ruby Lawrence, to see what it's all about! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWj_sKb9Jcw

Cheap stash, sports, friends and fun, plus a chance to shoe the tabs! What's there not to like?
MedSoc is providing a coach to take us to Cambridge (departing from Oxford at 09:30). Once we arrive, we'll challenge Shamebridge across several sports, with the aim to get as many Oxonians playing in every event (and to thoroughly trounce the light blues). Then we'll all head out for a group dinner after which those who fancy carrying the early word of victory can head back on the X5 bus, and those who want to see a tab do a shoe can stay for the Varsity Crewdate.
